Composite Fillings

A composite filling is a natural tooth-colored material used when a tooth has a cavity, a tooth is chipped, or a gap between the teeth exists. The advantages of composites are its natural tooth color, it allows for conservative tooth preparation, and composite can bond to the tooth using a bonding agent. The material is applied in layers and cured with a UV light. Today, this is the material of choice for filling work.

It is important to realize that dental filling materials do not last a lifetime. Your filling may need replacement if the filling no longer is sealed to the tooth, the filling material cracks, or a cavity develops next to an existing filling.
